Streg

Thomas Troels Hildebrandt is a professor, founder, and former head of the Software, Data, People & Society Section at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen.

He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Aarhus University.

His research focuses on the digitalization of law, responsible use of AI, and business and case management processes, rooted in his background in formal semantics and mathematical models of processes.

He has served as both principal investigator and co-investigator on several interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with industry partners and governmental institutions.

His work has led to the development of the DCRGraphs.net technology and methods for Agile Digitalization of law, business, and case management processes. This research also contributed to the creation of DCRSolutions.net, where he was a board member from 2018-2021.

DCRSolutions was established as part of the EcoKnow Grand Solutions research project (EcoKnow.org), which ran from 2018-2021 with support from Innovation Fund Denmark. The project focused on effective, co-created, and compliant digitalization of knowledge work.

Today, the technology is backed by mature design, analysis, and execution tools and is embedded in KMD WorkZone, an enterprise information system widely used in the public sector and by private companies.

His research in DCR continues in the PAPRiCaS.org project, funded by the Independent Research Council, with a focus on programming foundations for privacy, accountability, and robustness.

He also has multiple collaborations and ongoing projects with the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen, including the Nordasil project, which focuses on data science and migration law.

Additionally, he is a member of the AI group in Danish Standard, contributing to the development of AI standards at national, European, and global levels.

Beyond academia, he works as an independent consultant, course lecturer, and keynote speaker in digitalization.

From 2000-2003, he was the head of the Internet and Software Technology study program at IT University of Copenhagen (ITU).

From 2003-2011, he served as Director of the International PhD School on Foundations for Innovative Research-Based Software Technology (FIRST), a collaboration between all Computer Science Departments in East Denmark.

From 2011-2018, he was Associate Professor at IT University of Copenhagen, where he led the Process Intelligence, Modelling, and Optimization research group.

He has taught both introductory and advanced courses in programming, distributed systems, and process modeling, covering industrial modeling standards such as BPMN, as well as formal models like Petri Nets and process calculi. His courses also include DCRGraphs.net technology.
